Kirigami in the Flow

Cut patterns in a thin plastic sheet allow the sheet to expand when pulled.

When placed in a flow, kirigami sheets get pulled into elaborate and elongated shapes.

With flow visualization, we can see the complex wakes formed around each "fin" in the sheet. Text reads: "Each kirigami pattern creates a characteristic wake..."
