Snake Tongues

Snakes are notorious for their forked tongues, which allow them to "smell in stereo".

When the snake flicks its tongue up and down, it pulls air toward the tongue, allowing it to gather scent chemicals.

The tongue fits into two grooves in the snake's mouth, and saliva from each side of the fork goes to its own sensory organ (lower center).
