Stomp Bottle

Written by

Whether a ball partially filled with water bounces on impact depends on the distribution of water before impact.
Spinning the bottle pushes water up the walls and, when the bottle impacts, that water forms a messy jet that eats up momentum that would otherwise go into a rebound.
The control rule is simple: The more you swirl, the more water spreads out on the wall ready to stomp the container and attenuate the bounce.
