An oil drop moving through a background fluid pulls (or entrains) fluid with it, as shown by the colorful paths left by tracer particles.

The distorted gridlines in the wake of this droplet show how it pulls fluid with it.

When many drops (shown as spheres) travel through, they can pull more material (colored dots) with them than the sum of their individual entrainments.
